Thursday work mornings at Manton are getting busier by the week and among the jockeys in action this time, the newly-arrived Tadhg O’Shea – after five months inDubai– was well placed to assess matters at this early stage of the campaign.

Tadhg, on hand to take a quartet of his boss Hamdan Al Maktoum’s horses, among others, through their paces, was complimentary on all sides.

“The ground is perfect, all our horses went well and coming in here fresh, I truly believe that they are much further forward at this stage than 12 months ago,” he said.

Tadhg was complimentary about the three-year-old maidens Rawaafed and Edraaq and a couple of two-year-olds for later in the year, while fellow riders Kieren Fallon, Martin Dwyer and Shane Kelly were also on hand.

Kieren continued his getting-to-know-you association with Most Improved doing a routine work over a mile with Titus Mills and reported himself “very happy”.

Several promising three-year-old maidens are progressing nicely towards a first run of the season, beginning on Saturday with Sandbetweenourtoes in a Median Auction race at Lingfield.

He raced twice, showing promise first time, but disgraced himself on his planned third race atNewmarket, refusing to enter the stalls. The time-honoured remedy for a “naughty boy” – a gelding operation – was carried out and he looks a different animal on the home gallops where he has been impressing Shane Kelly.

We will be getting going in earnest next week, with the two-day Craven meeting at Newmarket and the following two days at the Greenham meeting at Newbury. Most Improved in the Craven Stakes on Thursday is the highlight for the stable, while Manton’s first juvenile runner, the promising Acclamation colt Forbidden Fruit, runs the previous day in a Class 3 conditions race.

Produced some solid performances last season and is nicely weighted on the pick of his form. Is sure to come on for this first appearance of the season, but has run well off a break before and a good run is anticipated.

INLER (York 3.00 p.m.) We were delighted with his comeback at Newmarket which will have blown away the cobwebs for this talented performer. He improved throughout the second half of last year and having continued to work well since that comeback, he deserves his shot at this level.

GOOD CLODORA (Kempton 6.50 p.m.) A nice Red Clubs filly who has been going well at home. She has a good draw, but our juveniles usually improve for a run.

BORAGH JAMAL (Kempton 9.20 p.m.) Reliable sprinting filly who is adaptable at the two shorter trips and goes well on Polytrack. Her wide draw may not help, especially if she starts slowly as is sometimes the case.

I’VEGOTTHEPOWER runs at Sandown in a 7f maiden and will be ridden by Jimmy Fortune.

He would have learnt plenty at Newbury first time out and with the application of headgear we hope he can be competitive.

FAITHFUL CREEK also runs at Sandown in a 1m handicap and he is partnered by our yard apprentice Jordan Uys.

He has been running with credit in big handicaps and we hope he can run a big race once again.

2.50 – ATALANTA QUEEN – She ran very well at Ripon to finish second on Saturday and has come out of the race well. I hope she can be just as competitive at Lingfield and Jordan Uys rides her again.

6.00 – PACK IT IN – He is in good form from his previous run and the ground here at Sandown should suit him well and see him run a good race. Jordan Uys rides.

7.10 – PETRA’S PONY – First time out for this Big Bad Bob gelding, he has been showing some good potential at home and he is ready for his first run which I hope he can learn lots from. Jordan Uys takes the ride.

7.40 – FOX TROTTER – He ran a great race last time out but was unfortunate as he was on the wrong side of the track and had no pace to run at. Hopefully he can get a good run this time out and be involved in a competitive finish. Jim Crowley rides.

TAKE THE HELM runs at Doncaster at 4:10 and Jimmy Fortune rides.

He ran a very good race last time at Newmarket and a repeat of that could see him go very close again.

SON CASTELLO also runs today at Kempton and Nicky Mackay rides.

He looks to be off a competitive mark and we hope he can run a big race.
